A Tale of Two Three Four Cruises

Here are four stories about cruising -- please see the sidebar for the rather unusual history. Before diving in, you might want to read some of the comments left by readers of the first story. Many are pretty amusing.

The Galaxy Cruise

The original 16-part Galaxy Story has been published as a book (details on right). I've left chapter 12 up as a sample.

Part XVIa - Supplement, The Death of Angelina Lauro (not in the book). Warning - a sad story...

After the original posting of the story on CruiseCritic, readers asked for an epilogue: Part XVII - Epilogue, Cruise Withdrawal

Shortly thereafter, I was contacted by Celebrity cruises and offered a free trip. Here is the text of the email I received from Celebrity. and the subsequent continuation of the epilogue: Part XVIII - Epilogue Part 2, Prelude to Mercury

The Mercury Cruise

Here is the story of the second trip. Kris couldn't go, so I took my 23 year-old son Ryan on an "Adult Escape" cruise. Somewhat ironic, don't you think?

The Millennium Cruise

The story of our third trip documents the experience of Cruising With Teenagers.

The Prairie Home Companion Cruise

Cruising With the Mothers on Maasdam

Garrison Keillor chartered Holland America Line's Maasdam for a 7-day cruise to the Canadian Maritimes from Boston. Kris and I went, and our mothers came along for their first cruise. This should be interesting to write about...

History

These two three four stories were originally posted on CruiseCritic.com. I adopted the name "Mr. X" during the process, hence the theme of the website.

The response to the first story was so overwhelming that Celebrity Cruiseline invited us to take a second trip, gratis. Kris was unable to accompany me, so I took our son Ryan -- we had a blast!

The third story recounts the experience of cruising with teenagers -- what 'a trip'.
