Cruise Stories

There are four stories in this series, and all were originally posted on CruiseCritic.com. One of the stories is now a book, and the other three are here for your enjoyment.

The first story chronicled our inaugural cruise, a ten-day Caribbean jaunt aboard Celebrity’s Galaxy in celebration of our twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.  The response to this story was so overwhelming that Celebrity Cruises invited us to take a second trip, gratis.  Eventually the story was released as a book, What Time Is the Midnight Buffet?

Kris was unable to accompany me on the free trip, so I took our son Ryan who had just been discharged from the Marines and was adjusting to civilian life. We had a blast, and this became the second story. Click here for Father and Son Cruise on Celebrity’s Mercury.

The third story describes the experience of cruising with teenagers. Kris and I took our then 18 year-old son, Wells, and his best friend, Dan, on a cruise aboard Celebrity’s Millennium.  It was a coming of age trip for them, and a true test of parenting skills for us. By this time we were full-fledged cruise junkies, and decided to introduce more family members to the joys of ocean travel.  Kris and I invited our mothers to join us on Holland America’s Maasdam on a charter sponsored by Garrison Keillor and the Prairie Home Companion gang. I’m still working on this fourth story, but there’s plenty to keep you amused and busy – click here for Cruising With the Mothers.
